Chelsea star Christian Pulisic made the decision to play for the USA national team – despite having injury issues in London.
The American has suffered another injury setback after picking up a hamstring problem in the warm up before beating Burnley 3-0 last month.
It is the fifth injury the forward has picked up since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in January 2019.
He also missed the latest win over Sheffield United, with Frank Lampard saying he was “training at a low level” during the week.
But Gregg Berhalter, head coach of Pulisic’s national team USA, said that the 22-year-old wanted to be part of the international break despite his problems.
Speaking to Fox Sports , the head coach said: “Christian is in camp and is listed as day-to-day.
“It says a lot about Christian that he wasn’t playing for Chelsea but wanted to come into this camp and be around the team.
“His status is day-to-day.”
Pulisic’s injuries at Stamford Bridge mean he has made just 39 appearances for the Blues.
Despite scoring 12 goals in that time, it has seen Pulisic face criticism – but Gerhalter believes fans should take a different perspective.
He told ESPN : “I don’t see it like that.
“I really see it as a young player who is just adapting to the demands of a different game, a different schedule.
“When you get injured, when you have a muscle injury, it takes you a while to get fully fit and recover and this is part of his recovery process.
“I have no doubt that he’s going to be a player that is fit for a very long period of time when he gets through this period.”
Pulisic will be with the squad for their international friendlies against Wales and Panama this month.
But fans wanted to get a taste of the player they bought by sharing footage from his career at Dortmund causing havoc with Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos three years ago.
