Carlos Tevez shown yellow card THREE SECONDS after kick-off

Carlos Tevez is shown a yellow card just THREE SECONDS after kick-off in Boca Juniors game… but should he have been given a straight red for brutal challenge?

  • Carlos Tevez remains as fiercely competitive as ever at 36-years-old for his side
  • Combative forward took three seconds to get himself into the referee’s book
  • Boca Juniors star went in hard on Tomas Pochettino and studs connected

Carlos Tevez escaped a red card just three seconds into Boca Juniors’ clash with Talleres Cordoba after a horrible tackle moments after kick-off.

The combative forward was as ferocious as ever right from the start of the game and went into the referees book with a yellow card with three seconds on the clock.

As soon as the whistle went to start the game, the ball was passed to Tomas Pochettino and Tevez immediately chased him down.

Carlos Tevez charged forward and was guilty of a horrible tackle just three seconds in

The forward was cautioned for his challenge and his side went on to lose (time in image shown during replay in television coverage later in match)

The former Manchester United and Juventus star then planted his studs into the calf of his opponent who had already passed the ball away.

The 36-year-old’s reckless challenge appeared to catch everyone off guard and he sheepishly accepted a booking, perhaps relieved it was not a straight red.

Tevez accepted his yellow without complaint while Pochettino lay on the ground in pain.

The Argentine returned to his boyhood club in 2018 having made his name in Europe, firstly at West Ham before going on to play for both Manchester clubs and then Juventus.

If he’d have been shown a red card it would have been the fastest in history from the beginning of a match.

Keith Gillespie has the dubious honour of the fastest red card ever, technically zero seconds, as he was preparing to come on as a substitute for Sheffield United against Reading in 2007.

He elbowed Steven Hunt as the ball had gone out for a throw in and the referee sent him for an early bath before he’d even got onto the pitch.

The fact that Tevez remained on the pitch for Boca Juniors did not in fact end up hampering the opposition too much.

Boca were edged out 1-0 by Talleres, their first defeat of the season having won the first two games.

Tevez could not prevent his side losing for the first time this season in the game
